Laurie Spicer

Laurie Spicer is Director of US Expansion at Foothold America, the go-to-market partner for international businesses entering the US market. An American citizen who has lived in the UK for over 30 years, she joined Foothold America in December 2021 and was promoted to Director in January 2025.

With over 25 years of experience in international trade and business development across North American, European, and Asian markets, Laurie has advised companies at every stage of US market entry. Her expertise covers HR and employment compliance, US entity setup, operational frameworks, market-entry strategy, and the practical realities of hiring in America.

Before joining Foothold America, Laurie spent seven years as an International Trade Adviser with the Department for International Trade, helping UK SMEs develop export strategies with a primary focus on the US market. Prior to that, she held senior business development roles in IT services and ICT recycling spanning nearly two decades.

Laurie holds a certificate in Fundamentals for Success in the USA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management Executive Program, and completed executive education in Brexit and World Trade at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

As Director of US Expansion, Laurie advises UK and European startups and scale-ups across the full scope of US market entry, from employer of record services and entity formation to employment compliance, hiring strategy, and the cultural differences that catch companies off guard.
